Help & FAQ for GuessBeat
How to play GuessBeat, fix common issues, and where to get support.
Getting started
- Create a room — pick your name, optional filters (era, genre, mood, artists, albums), how many rounds are in the match, and how many answer choices each question has (3–8).
- Share the 4-letter code so friends can join. You can also browse public lobbies if the host listed the room.
- Host starts the game when everyone is ready. Each round plays a short clip; pick the correct song title from the options. Faster correct answers score more.
- Room chat — text the room anytime while waiting or during a game (emoji-friendly).
Solo vs multiplayer
Playing alone, you can pause the clip and round timer together. With multiple players in the room, the timer stays fair for everyone — preview behavior follows the on-screen hints.
How we pick songs
GuessBeat does not download a single giant library. Each round pulls from several legal music sources (Spotify, Deezer, Apple iTunes Search, optional Jamendo / YouTube, and MusicBrainz to discover titles). We only use tracks that have a short preview or an embeddable video — not every song in the world has one. Use era, genre, region, featured shortcuts, or your own artist and album names to steer the mix; if a combination is too narrow or an API is slow, you may hear a fallback clip so the game keeps going. No sound or clip won't play
- Check your device volume and that the browser tab isn't muted.
- Some browsers block autoplay until you interact with the page — tap the preview player or play once.
- Try another browser or disable strict extensions blocking media.
- Read the blog post: Troubleshooting audio on GuessBeat.
"Can't reach game server" notice
If a small "Can't reach game server" pill stays in the bottom corner for more than a few seconds, the site couldn't connect to the game server (multiplayer and some features need it). Check your connection, tap Retry, or contact the site operator if it keeps happening.
Accounts
You don't need an account to play in a room. Signing in is optional and keeps your display name and scores saved across sessions.
